The South Sudan Peoples Defense Forces (SSPDF) has blamed General Thomas Cirillo’s National Salvation Front for killing 19 civilians in Yei River State on Thursday. A statement from the Spokesperson of the SSPDF Thursday evening said that eight other civilians were also wounded in the incident which happened in a village between Gorom and Wundorba.

“The wounded are currently receiving treatment at Juba Military Hospital,” Major General Lul Ruai Koang, the Spokesperson of the army said. “Among the dead were women and children and the elderly, they were killed by NAS fighters under direct command of Kenyi Loboron,” he added.

The army said it condemned the unjustified killing of civilians, calling on the international community to hold Gen Cirillo and his commanders accountable.

“SSPDF also calls upon CTSAMVM- to investigate and verify the violation of R-ARCSS and Permanent ceasefire Agreement,” he added.

The NAS leader Thomas Cirillo did not sign the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) on 12 September 2018
